The Summer Court is most often associated with growth and heat which is directly opposed to the Winter Court. The Summer Court is ruled by three Queens, collectively known as the Summer Queens (the Summer Mother, Summer Queen, and Summer Lady.) In addition, Summer counts many Sidhe and lesser faeries as members of the greater Summer Court. Finally, as with the Winter Court, a single mortal champion is appointed by the Summer Queens; the Summer Knight. The power of the Summer Court and its rulers is tied closely to the seasons in the mortal world. Summer gains power from Midwinter to Midsummer and loses power from Midsummer to Midwinter. The Summer Court represents what people see as the benevolent side of the Fae. The fae of this court are generally considered more polite or mannered, albeit they are still very capable of cruelty (but will be more hush-hush, or subtle about it). Needless to say, the fae of this court are frivolous, venereal, hot-headed and what have you. They are the epitome of summer.
The Winter Court represents what people see as the malevolent side of the Fae. The fae of this court frown upon humans. They're more inclined to talk about their open cruelty. This makes them look more 'evil' than the Fae of Summer, however one chooses to define evil. The Winter Court has free reign over winter solstice and autumn equinox months, and are strongest during that time. By and by, the fae of this court are sensible, chilled, dark, baleful, and what have you. They are the epitome of winter. The Winter Court is ruled by the three Winter Queens: Mother Winter, Winter Queen, and Winter Lady. It also keeps a mortal champion, the Winter Knight.
The Winter and Summer Kings are Wyldfae associated with their respective seasons. They are independent of the Queens and have a nature that is opposite of their season's Queen. The current Summer King is the Erlking, and the current Winter King is Kringle. Both are powerful Fae with key roles in the Wild Hunt.
How are types of Fae determined?
Like with shifters, the Fae type the character is must reflect the fae type one of their parents. Few have mixed gifts from both parents but this is a rare case and there should be extra weaknesses to balance.
What kind of abilities can they have?
We prefer that the Fae have elemental based abilities, but understand that some types of Fae listed don’t follow the elemental idea. A fae specialized in gifts that would not be considered elemental should reflect the inability or lack of ability to use elemental magic as a weakness. We love seeing balance!
Can my Fae sense what others are?
Fae have a knack for it! Unlike every other 'common' species, Fae are very adept at recognizing common species without much trouble or thought put into it. Though, some fae might lump all humans together, whether they are supernatural or not. They also are more likely to recognize species under the 'Other' listing, though this depends on age of the Fae and their life experiences to know if they can accurately give species name or just that they are this vague type of thing.
Why do the Phoenix hate or fear the Fae?
Phoenix's blood can open a portal to the Fae realms. It lasts for a short period of time but allows quick access to any fae who could get their hands on a Phoenix or their blood.... making them highly sought after and often enslaved by certain types. Where vampires are enticed by fae blood, Fae are enticed by Phoenix blood - though the reasons are very different.
Can Fae be turned into Shifters or Vampires?
No. No other species besides human-types can be turned. Fae can be fed from, but if they're drained too much, they will die and return to the font of magic.
Why are so many vampires talking about drinking from Fae?
Drinking Fae blood creates an opiate high in a Vampire. Fae smell heavenly to Vampires, and are sought-after lovers and/or blood donors (or victims, depending on the Vampire.) Most Fae aren't eager to be fed from & it isn't out of the realm of possibility for a Vampire to become too intoxicated to know when to stop, and Fae weaken when they lose a lot of blood (like just about every other creature.)
How does the Siren's voice affect the Fae?
While the Fae are human(ish) in appearance, they have never been human. Unless the Fae in question is extremely weak-willed or otherwise compromised, they are not affected by the siren's power.
Can a fae and a human create offspring?
Yes, but the child will never be considered fae. Ninety-nine percent of the time, the resulting child will be a mundane human, with the rare Gifted Human popping up down the bloodline.
